Venetian Mask II

The Carnavale of Venice

A mom and her student daughter came in the store with a mask that the daughter had brought home from a trip to Venice, Italy. They had seen, on our website, how we had framed several of these, before, for a couple who had honeymooned there during Carnavale. Because of the depth of the mask and all the details, the very best way to frame one of these is not in a deep shadowbox, where all you can see is the mask from straight-on in the front. Rather, we use what is called a "flanged lip plexi box." It is, essentially, a plexi box with a 90 degree lip coming off the bottom edge, all the way around. The plexi box's flanged lip hooks under the lip of any picture frame. What this does is it allows you to have something protruding off the front of a base the fits inside any picture frame. In this case, we used a lovely frame from Larson-Juhl, #372330 called Murano Silver that is about 1 3/8" wide. The plexi box was built for us by our friends at Acrylic and Framing Service. The mask was sewn and laced down onto a base covered in Crescent 7193 Moorman Suede mat board. Inside dimension for the frame is 15 x 18 x 4 1/2". It turned out great and the client was very happy with the end result. Photos follow:
