Matching Marathon Medal Framing

A client brought in a bag full of medals she earned running a bunch of marathon races, along with a framed one that she wanted us to try to duplicate. We picked out matting for each one that complemented the particular medal and color schemes that went along with them. Her only requirements were that the framing look much like the sample.

The frame at lower right was the original sample our client brought in for us to match. We could not find a fillet in maple that wide, but what we did find worked really well with the various matting treatments. Note the wicker covered matting with the surfboard at lower left.

The frames were G-2951 Natural Ramin wood by Gemini Moulding. The fillet is a natural maple by Larson Juhl, #160NAT. The mat we used for the upper left (LaSalle Marathon) was Bainbridge 4289 Dusty Ash Glazed Linen. The upper right (Marine Corps. Marathon) used a Bainbridge 8669 Black Shadow (dark gray) mat. The Surf City medal got mounted on a Bainbridge 4402 Grasscloth Dunes mat. All three frames have a top, white mat that is Bainbridge 8634 Alpharag. All frames used Artglass U/V (museum) antireflective glass.

If you are an avid sports competitor with a box full of medals, ribbons, pins, etc. bring them in and we will come up with a really interesting design in which to frame them all.
