Their RagMat Museum Solids mat board is 100% cotton, with solid color throughout, acid-free, lignin-free, extra-rigid, with special surface sizing for French matting and other art media applications. When you cut your mats from a ragmat that has the color (or lack thereof) running throughout, you don't get a distracting bright white bevel surrounding your mat opening. CRESCENT SELECT CONSERVATION SOLIDS MAT BOARD: PURIFIED ALPHA-CELLULOSE, CONSERVATION MATTING

For those who want conservation grade mat board, but cannot afford 100% cotton rag, you now have a great option. Crescent Select Conservation Solids mat board is made from purified alpha-cellulose and meets all the standards for conservation matting. Like the Ragmat Museum Solids, this grade of mat board has the color running all the way through the board, front and back. So, you do not get a distracting bright white bevel when you cut an opening and, best of all, you can use both sides of the mat board. With cotton's cost fluctuating wildly over the last few years (highly changeable weather, political unrest, etc.), Crescent Select represents a more stable, less costly alternative.
