Bank of America Marathon 2012 Montage Frame

We framed a grouping of Bank of America Marathon memorabilia for a client who wanted us to design something unique with all of it. Here is the result:

We mounted the photos, map and runner's bibb number on Bainbridge 8020 Rave Red mat board and put a foam board riser (3/16" thick) under each element. The drop-in shadowbox we used was Bainbridge 8021 Stadium Blue. Both colors coordinated with the BOA logo colors. The medal is held in place with a small amount of silicone adhesive and the ribbons are held down by strips of Doubletack, an archival adhesive film. The ribbons are wrapped around the back of the shadowbox and secured with cloth tape. Originally, the photos were all supposed to be arranged parallel to the top of the frame. However, while getting ready to glue them down to the shadowbox base, I set them in place and rotated them a few degrees in either direction to have them mimic the angle of the ribbon. It made all the difference in how the composition looked. The matte black wood frame is a Nielsen Gallery Woods ready-made frame 20 x 24. We use that series a lot for shadowbox work since it is at least an inch deep and economically priced when cost is an issue.
