Why do people collect things? It seems like we spend our lives amassing collections of things that please us, whether they be tangible or otherwise. Still, it is uniquely human to gather up collections of items, as no other species on the planet has what we call "hobbies."
Fortunately we, at Flax Art & Frame, understand this penchant for gathering up items that remind us of our past experiences. In order to enjoy them, though, they must be seen. That is why it is important to display and preserve them at the same time in a manner that is both pleasing and functional.
Shown in this section of The Idea Wall are an unusual array of items people have inherited, collected or picked up during their travels. What we have found is that each set of items has presented a unique challenge to us to figure out how to secure them, display them uniquely and make the whole greater than the sum of its parts.
Do you have collections of things that could be framed together in a shadowbox or plexibox? If so, consider bringing them in and let us sketch out some ideas of how you might be able to frame them and create a montage or collage that would allow you to get them out of the drawer, closet or shoebox under the bed.
