ANSLEY #533 COLLECTION
Shown at left is the Ansley #533 profile in Coffee with a cherry fillet stacked under the lip of the frame to lighten up the junction between the mat and the frame. This technique of using a lighter shade of the main, outerframe (or in the case of matting) is a great way to soften the contrast between the frame color and the color of the art (whether matted or not). A fillet, incidentally, is a thin wooden moulding that, while not a picture frame, serves much the same purpose. It creates the look of a frame-within-a-frame, especially when used to outline the opening of the mat.
